Spam: An ever growing problem! Steps Taken: Updating anti-spam tagging (SpamAssassin) Incorporating Black Lists ( SBL - Spamhaus Block List SBL CBL - Composite Blocking List CBL NJABL - Not Just Another Bogus List NJABL Next Steps: Enable Mirapoint Antispam web interface: provides more intuitive end-user control SPF (Sender Policy Framework): implies behavioral change Bottom line: Users must decide what is spam and what is not! Local Tech support is needed to help users to setup filters via Webmail utilize antispam features of clients understand the limitations of automated filtering, etc.
UTBI: Anti-Virus Purchase A PO has been issued for campus-wide anti-virus license with Symantec 8,000 on-campus licenses (~$9.44/license, ~$4.50 annual) 4,000 off-campus faculty/staff licenses (onetime $3.09/license) 30,000 student licenses ($1.07/license) Distribution of software Off-campus Faculty and Staff (no student assistants) computers via ITR Off-campus Student computers via Student Affairs (includes Housing) On-campus computers via local IT units Your tasks: Provide a count of the number of desktops in your area: Mac, Windows, and Unix variants Indicate if you are going to Run local anti-virus definition distribution server Utilize the Enterprise anti-virus definition distribution server Off-campus computers will only use live update directly from Symantec POC for software: Steve.Dan & David.Sorkin
Microsoft Work At Home (WAH) Purchases handled via ASAP software and/or the University Bookstore Program includes: Windows XP Pro Office 2003 Professional Office 2004 for MAC Limitations: Only one copy can be install on a faculty/staff computer Employee is the primary user of the computer Software is used, primarily, for work-related purposes Media provide by ASAP or Bookstore, separate key codes, and soft ware is not to be duplicated and/or re-distributed
Microsoft IE Browser Patch Several sources have reported security problems related to the IE browser Patches have been released by MS, but a vulnerability remains. Recommendations from various sources: Patch all your IE browsers Set security settings to high Disable Active scripting and ActiveX controls Need Patch Management!

Account Cleanup We have a large number of dormant, unclassified accounts: Password have expired quota limit set to zero These accounts will be deleted soon Your tasks: Review local usage of department and special accounts.
