2 Old Voicemail System New Voicemail System installed on May 17 Remaining Issues:  Migrating calling trees  Some users have still not activated their account If users are experienceing any problems, please report to Cat.Carrigan@csun.edu 4879 or the University Helpdesk Old system will be removed on June 18  Users must remove any wanted voice mail  Users may access the system via x3100

3 End of Life: IPX and Appletalk Original Announcement of Intent:  TSAG Meeting, Nov & Dec 2002 Proposed Last Date of support:  Friday June 4 2004 (Last day of academic year) Current Status:  IPX and Appletalk routing is “off” in many areas  ITR/NEO is removing remaining remnants shortly  Exceptions: Library to support Pay-for-Print infrastructure Univ. Hall to provide additional time to migrate off both protocols Do not rely on intrasubnet functionality

4 Programming Support: PHP, … ATC requested additional server-side support  Security support: SSL and authentication  Programming support: PHP, CGI, fastCGI, …  Database support: mysql Campus web server (www.csun.edu)www.csun.edu  Supports SSL and LDAP-based authentication (.htaccess)  Provides PHP, CGI, fastCGI via ITR has provisioned a server, towhee.csun.edu, for long running jobs (e.g., mysql database instances)towhee.csun.edu Access to these services will be limited. Support is limited to infrastructure support, programming support will be a end-user or local issue

5 CSUN1: Interactive Shell Access General intent:  Phase-out shell access Current CSUN1 services:  Shell access  Pine access  Home directories (primarily for web publishing)  Uploading and Downloading files Future services  Shell access will be limited (e.g., to support pine users)  Home Directories via UDrive  File transfers via “SCP” (secure copy) (recall: inbound telnet/ftp being phased out on Oct 15, 2004)  Towhee.csun.edu will replace csun1.csun.edu

6 UTBI: Anti-Virus Purchase The University is planning on purchasing a campus-wide anti- virus license  8,000 on-campus licenses (~$9.44/license, ~$4.50 annual)  4,000 off-campus faculty/staff licenses (onetime $3.09/license)  30,000 student licenses ($1.07/license) Final decision has not be made, but Cabinet has endorsed the proposal Distribution of software for on-campus computers via TSAG Your tasks:  Provide a count of the number of desktops in your area: Mac, Windows, and Unix variants  Indicate if you are going to Run local anti-virus distribution server Utilize the Enterprise anti-virus distribution server POC for software: David.Sorkin x6442

7 Account Cleanup We have a large number of dormant, unclassified accounts:  Password have expired  E-mail quota limit set to zero These accounts will be deleted soon Your tasks:  Review local usage of department and special accounts.  Remind users to double check their account classification via https://www.csun.edu/account

8 Email Quotas All e-mail quota’s have been applied based upon affiliation Recall Notification system:  90% usage: Advisory message  100%-120% usage: Initial Warning Message Two-weeks later additional Notice Two-weeks later, quota adjusted to 100% limit  >120% usage: Automatic message and account lock Possible changes:  Increase frequency of notices  Increase overdraft amount (20%->100%) (Note that some clients report a different quota limit.)

9 VPN and Security Issues VPN version being updated on the website  ITR is only supporting the Cisco VPN client  You may use other clients at your own discretion SNMP strings:  Many network-attack devices have “public” for the public string. Either: disable SNMP access set an appropriate public string Printer Management, e.g., via web interface  You need to set password for these services, otherwise anyone on campus (including students from housing) can reconfigure your printers.
