Urinary Tract Diagram

Purpose of Excretory System The word excretion means the removal of waste substances from the body. Several organs are involved with the excretory system, including the kidneys, sweat glands, lungs, and rectum. Excretion is vital to the health of the body. Other wastes, namely urea, uric acid, & various salts are removed by the kidneys and sweat glands.

Purpose of Excretory System Liquid waste is removed by the kidneys. Located beside the spine in your back within your ribcage, the kidneys are small bean-shaped organs. The kidneys filter the wastes from the blood, forming a liquid called urine. The kidneys funnel the urine from 2 separate tubes called ureters and connect to the bladder. The bladder stores the urine until muscular contractions force the urine out of the body through the urethra. Each day, your kidneys produce about 1.5 liters of urine. All of it needs to be removed from your system. This occurs through urination.

Functions of Excretory System Parts Kidneys: Removes excess water and wastes such as urea and salts from the blood. This fluid is know as urine. Ureters: Carries urine from the kidneys to the urinary bladder. Urinary Bladder: sack located on the lower ventral body wall between the two umbilical arteries. Stores urine until it is eliminated from the body.
