Parts of a plant Scavenger Hunt Instructions Take out a sheet of paper and label it Plant Scavenger Hunt. Number your paper 1-18 Search around the room to find all of the fact cards. Once you find the fact card, find the corresponding question and answer the question. Use your own sheet of paper. Do not write on my sheet!!! There are 18 questions and 18 fact cards.

Plants are multicellular organisms that carry out photosynthesis. What is a plant? Plants are multicellular organisms that carry out photosynthesis. What is photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the process by which plants absorb the sun’s energy and use it as food. What STERNGRR process does this describe? Nutrition What part of the plant do you think is responsible for photosynthesis? Introduce chloroplasts and chlorophyll

What do plants need to survive? All living things grow and change. All living things need food, water, and air to live.

Plants must have these things to grow. Sunlight Air Water Nutrients or minerals from the soil Why do you think plants need each of these things to survive? What do plants use each of these things for? Plants use sunlight to create food Plants use air for gas exchange. The air contains oxygen and carbon dioxide that is very important for photosynthesis and cellular respiration All cells need a constant supply of water. Plants must obtain and deliver water to all their cells. What structure do you think allows the plant to do this? Nutrients and minerals move throughout the plant just like water. These nutrients are really important for plant growth. What plants need to survive applying concepts activity. Have students understand what plants need to survive by allowing them to grow their own seedlings. You will need: potting soil, small cups, and seeds. Reloop the scientific method by having students experiment with the presence or absence of different variables to observe their effects on growth. Students can design an experiment to observe these changes.
