The Beginning The practice of Aquaculture dates all the way back to 1000 B.C. In China.

Products Common products of aquaculture are Catfish Trout Crawfish Oysters Shrimp Salmon

Fish like Catfish and Panfish are raised in huge freshwater tanks. Fish such as Salmon and Trout are raised in rivers and streams because they require constant moving water. Saltwater species are raised in cages that are placed in coastal or deeper waters.

The most economical form of Aquaculture is fish farming. Fish farming is a billion dollar industry that produces more than 10% of the food fish consumed in the U.S.

Programs and School The Aquaculture Training Program began in 1976.Over 500 people from 59 countries have received certified training. Many courses are available year round. The class is for government fisheries technicians, officers, and administrators. Many colleges also have mini courses wich can be taken.

Costs The training fee is around 6,000 dollars. Living expenses are around 1,900 so the total cost is usually around 7,900 dollars.

Wages and Salary Wages and salary vary by the amount of what you do. Someone may be working for themselves as a self-owned business or you may have a large company with hundreds of workers. It depends on how much product you get out to sell. Some could make pocket change and some make the big big dollars
