St. Cuthbert’s R.E. Department The U.K. has been multi-ethnic for thousands of years. West Indies, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe People from the West Indies, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe have come here because: economic migrants 1.they were willing to do low paid jobs others wouldn't do and want a higher standard of living (economic migrants) asylum seekers 2.they have been fleeing persecution (asylum seekers)

St. Cuthbert’s R.E. Department Over two-thirds of independently- owned local shops belong to people from ethnic minorities. About 23% of Britain's doctors were born overseas.
