The Street Crime Program By Jasmine McIntosh 10/10/11

Do you think repeat offenders should be given a second chance ?

Do you believe they can stop committing their crimes?

Do you think they deserve help?

My Ideas My program is going to help repeat offenders stop committing their crimes. I want to try to make the street safer and cleaner but in order for that we need to reduce the crime rate and if we try to help the offenders they might try to change. I want to show that they can change. Not all but most would change from this program.

Street Crime Program in Phoenix, Arizona This program is what I based my program off of, This program in Phoenix, try to keep repeat offenders off the street by adding time to their sentence if they repeat the same crime. Squaw Peak Precinct Commander A.B. Smith has seen the results of the program firsthand, “This program is a remarkable success because it encourages citizens and business leaders to bring concerns to the police department so that the quality of life within the precinct can be improved.”

Cont. of Street Crime Program Precinct Sergeant, Amy Carlin, also touts the program, “Our officers communicate regularly with our citizens who have become personally involved in the program. It is an excellent example of what can happen when citizens and officers join together, who listen to one another, and who work together toward a common goal.” I thought to myself that instead of putting them in jail for more time send them somewhere like a halfway house and try to help them but if they leave and commit the same crime they would get more time on their sentence.

Collaborations Neil R. Ferdelman the police of chief in Hamilton Ohio said “it would be very risky but I believe that can work and it help our streets become more safer” David Johnson from building and planning in Cincinnati said “this is what our city need and it would be hard at first but I believe that it can be done”

I want to make a over night center that cost about for everything. An Abandoning building if the place is zoned and not commercial. I would need policeman, and security, bedrooms (at first about 15 bedrooms that fit 2 people in it), kitchen, playroom, office space, dining hall, full bathrooms (with about 3 showers in them, 5-6 toilets, and 3 sinks), church/ chapel, visiting area (were family can come and visit). EX-CON Rehabilitation

Cost / Salaries Counselors salary is $24,750 per year and I would have about 4 counselors to begin so that’s about $99,000 a year for counselors, $24,000 a year for security Guards and I would probably need about 5 which would be about 120,000 a year, it would be $26,000 a year for a cook and I would have about 2 cooks and 3 associate cooks which is about $20,000 a year which is about $230,000.

Cont. of Cost/Salaries Cost for a manager is about $27,007 which I would have about 3 for different shifts which would be about $81,021, and for associates/ assistants would be to $1,501-10,000 a year depending on the level which would be about 6 which would be about $9,006-$60,000 a year. The building would be in the range of $2,650,000 or $1,190,000

Funding Case Foundation's Make It Your Own Awards are grants of up to $35,000 for inspired individuals and teams who will work to make a difference in their community.Make It Your Own Awards Crime prevention grants that are up to $240 million are been awarded to support communities and law enforcement that are fighting crime, drug abuse, and gang activities.

Counter Argument Some people think “it is a waste of time and money because Repeat offenders will just keep doing what they doing” Sonja Harrison (my mother ) said “this would not work the word REPEAT is their for a reason they can not and will not change because that’s their life” also she said “ They should have learned their lesson when they went to jail the first time”

Conclusion I believe that everyone deserve a chance, even though they abuse the law we can give them a chance to stop doing what the are doing. Thank you for listening, when you leave from this station think about how this can change our community for the good.
