Some common editing tools are- cropping, scaling, flipping, rotating, cloning, layers, color balance and composite image.

SOCIAL IMPACTS The way that we edit images and display them will alter the way people interpret things.

EXAMPLES A magazine has an article that is explaining how to get bigger muscles displaying the image of a man with giant arms that are clearly enhanced but some people believe that if they follow what the article says that they will get muscles that big.

LEGAL IMPACTS A man was wrongfully shot by the police because they thought he was a known terrorist. When they displayed the image of the man it had been altered to look more like the terrorist in order to try to cover up their mistake.

POLITICAL IMPACTS In the presidential election between George Bush and John Kerry an image of John was brought up showing him next to a controversial protestor. This made many people question John's integrity. It was later then proved that the image was not real.

SCIENTIFIC IMPACTS A researcher in South Korea was doing research on stem cells. He published an article showing 11 stem cell colonies and the truth was that there were only three. He was later the convicted of embezzlement for using government funds for false research.
