Agenda 3 What Umeed look forward from KN Management?

Support from KN 1. Library of study books WHY:  School going children up to Std IV have all their books/copies kept in school only. They don’t have anything to study while they are at KN.  For Higher classes, books other than NCERT is needed so that they can compete with outside world.  Remand kids who do not go to school have no book/copy to study, even they are interested. SUPPORT FROM KN  Arrangement of library with books upto Std X  Arrangement of Stationery for Remand kids too  A separate library room where those who are interested in study can go and study in peace.

Support from KN 2. Admission of few meritious student to D.P.S,R.K.Puram,New Delhi WHY:  We came across few kids who are very good in studies.  If they are admitted to D.P.S R.K Puram, they can excel more.  Principle of D.P.S R.K.Puram agreed to give admission to few kids under the scheme called “Anubhav Sikhsha Kendra” to make good education affordable for so-called lower section of society SUPPORT FROM KN  Approval for admission  Sponsorship for their studies over there and their commutation from KN to D.P.S

Support from KN 3. Tuition Teachers during weekdays WHY:  Umeed is a group of working professional. So none of them can teach children in weekdays. As a result there is gap of 5days between 2 teaching session by umeedians.  Children can do good if they are given consistent teaching.  If KN can sponsor the tuition fees for teachers, children can be taught during weekdays.  Monitoring of how well the teachers are doing their job can be done by joint effort of Umeed and KN Staff.

Support from KN 3. Tuition Teachers during weekdays Logistics  Classes for which tuition is needed : Std V to Std X  Number of Students in the above group: 35  # of children in each tuition group: max 7  # of teachers needed: 5  Expected tuition Fee: 2- 3k/month

Support from KN 4. Locks for Children’s cupboard WHY  Every time when we teach kids, they have complains that their books/pen/copies are stolen.  Whatever Prizes we give to them, they have a fear that it will be stolen. We understand that process for giving the locks is in progress. We request KN to expedite this so that kids can get locks asap.

Agenda 4 What KN Staff want to be done in child home On 23 rd May 09, we had a meeting with KN Staff ( Deepika,Vandana,Master ji)

Input From KN Staff 1. Sending children for Physical Training  Few senior children can be sent to Indian Mountaineering Federation, Dhaula Kuan for the training. This training happened during Dec-Jan every year.  Children can be sent to Army Camp ( Uttarkashi) for the training which may help then to get recruited in Defense Services

Input From KN Staff 2. I-Card, Voters Card, opening of Bank Account  MasterJi shared that when children go out of KN, they face problem in every area where they have to give indentity/address proof.  He wanted that if KN can do something in this area.

Input From KN Staff 3. Change in Breakfast menu  Currently kids are getting Chappati-Tea in Breakfast. They were suggesting to have different breakfast everyday.  School going kids to be provided with lunch box.

Agenda 5 What are Umeed’s future activities at KN?

Future Activities 1. Regular weekend teaching session Each member of Umeed has indentified 5-6 children to whom they teach during weekend (2 pm-6 pm) Few members also take Yoga Classes, Mediation for Remand kids

Future Activities 2. Weekly session on Self Awareness We are planning to take at least one session, in a week, on self management for all kids. Benefit:  Clarity about life  How to live in harmony with other  Increase in confidence level that they are worth of many things.  Enhancement of Moral Values  Enhancement of Personal hygiene

Future Activities 3. Vocational Training for children in the age group of WHY:  Children do not know what will happen once they attain age of 18 and they have to move out from KN.  This worry make them feel that education being imparted to them by school or Umeed is of no importance as it is not going to provide them food, shelter after 18 yrs of age.  We thought to provide them in-house training so that when they attain age of 18, they have some skills with which they can sustain their life and if possible/interested studies. Benefit/Type of Training/other logistics:  We are still in the process of it and will expedite it once approval given
