Stan & Jan Berenstain By: Michael Uthe

The Facts of History… Stanley Melvin Berenstain and Janice Marian (Grant) were born in the same year of 1923 in the fighting city of Philadelphia. They met at an art museum in Philly, where they got married after Stan returned from the war. They displayed their early work in in The Saturday Evening Post, Colliers Magazine, McCall's, Good Housekeeping. They were very interested in family and children humor, and that was their main focus on writing.

Their Inspiration Their Inspiration for writing and also their kids favorite, was Ted “Dr. Seuss” Geisel himself. Ted, Published over 200 Books in the next 43 years for the Berenstain’s career.

Family Business Stan and Jan made a life time career of writing children's’ books. Their biggest hit was the Berenstain Bear’s Series. Their son Michael became a children’s book illustrator and author by the 1970s. He joined the family business in the 80s and became the illustrator and co-writer of the Berenstain Bear’s Books by 1992.
