Luke

Who is Luke? Luke was the writer of the Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. A nickname for him was the beloved physician. He was born a Greek and a Gentile. He was of pagan origin. He converted to Christianity. He was mentioned 3 times in the New Testament, as a friend of Saint Paul. He was the only non-Jewish writer.

It was unknown the exact date of his writings, but we know that he had Mark’s gospel with him while writing it, so sometime after 70 C.E, roughly 85. He was not present to see what he wrote about. Luke never married, and died around the age of 84. He died in Achaia, and his bones were transferred to Constantinople. The symbol of an ox was used often for him. The symbol was given to him because of his calmness and strength.

Luke’s Gospel His gospel was filled with interviews with followers of Jesus. It is the third of the four canonical gospels of the New Testament, which tells the story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. His gospel contains 7 major sections 1. infancy gospel 2. preparation for public ministry 3. the ministry in Galilee 4. the journal to Jerusalem

5. the ministry in Jerusalem 6. the passion 7. the Resurrection  He was unfamiliar with the land of Palestine and wrote to an audience made up of Gentiles and Christians.  He set out to write the continuity of Christianity with the Judaism of the Hebrew Scriptures.  He emphasizes the central role of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ life.  He closes his gospel by stressing the continuity presence of Jesus through the Spirit after Jesus’ death and Resurrection.  He stresses Jesus’ mercy and compassion.

He illustrates that God accepts the people who are least expected to receive God’s favor. He reminds readers of the joy that is shared by those who experience God’s forgiving love in Jesus. He clearly shows a Jesus who truly loves all men and women. Many people consider Luke’s Gospel their favorite because of the beautiful writing and its portraits of a compassionate and kind Jesus.

Acts of the Apostles The Acts of the Apostles is a book in the bible, that is fifth in the New Testament. It was written by Luke between 70 and 90 AD The book itself didn’t contain Luke’s name on it, but there was a lot of evidence that he was the author. In the book it describes many of the journeys the apostles took. It describes many miraculous events performed by the Holy Spirit inside of the apostles. It also contained historical descriptions of everyday life in the Roman Empire and in ancient Jerusalem.
