The Functions of the Family

Although families may perform each function differently, these are what families are “supposed” to do… Puking all over the place is not one of the family functions….

1. Physical maintenance and care of family members Each member of the family should have their basic needs met BASIC NEEDS

2. Addition of new family members through procreation or adoption A family typically reproduces more members of society by having children or adopting.

3. Socialization of children for adult roles  A family should teach each member of the family morals, values, citizenship, and language so they function well in society.

4. Production, consumption, and distribution of goods and services A family should be working members of society in order to be able to purchase products/goods that are needed by the family Sweetie, when we leave you everyday with Sarah, we’re doing it for you. That way we can have successful careers and you can be proud of us.

5. Nurturance and Love A family should be a positive environment where Maslow’s safety, and love and belonging needs are met

6. Social control of children A family should have rules and control over their children
