GRANT WRITING ORGANIZATION  Four Steps in Getting Organized Planning Funding source research Writing proposal Evaluation by funding source

1. Planning  Where are you now? Needs assessment  Where do you want to be? Goal set  How are you going to get there?  Resources, barriers, action planner, what, who. when, where, set up a spreadsheet or database  How will you know you have arrived? Evaluation, indicators of success

2. Funding source research  Internet  Grants for schools web site:  Foundation Directory: foundationcenter.org  State department web site: arkansased.org grants:  Federal government education department web site:

3. Writing proposal  Have a good idea  Match idea to funding source  Research sources funding process  State project objectives  State method to achieve the objectives  Base budget on objectives  Justify budget  Objective based evaluation

4. Evaluation by funding source  Can be a particular form  Can be done by site evaluator  You must do what you said you would do in the funding proposal or else you have to repay the money

OTHER HINTS  Use good writing skills (have others read the document)  Have support letters  Justify why you are asking for funds  Show why you can do what you plan to do  Make out a reasonable budget  Inkind contributions may be required (cost sharing, include facility, computers, clerical, your waiver of salary, etc.)
