A sum of money given to an agency or individual to address a problem or need in the community A grant proposal is a written document prepared to ask for the money (funding) Grants are not synonymous with contracts Grant funding is available via both the public and private sectors

3 Why is it worthwhile to write a grant proposal? You want to start a new project You want to expand an existing project and costs cannot be covered in your current budget You know that you meet the eligibility standards for awards available via grants You are able to commit the time, energy, and other resources needed for the grant-writing process You have been invited to apply for a grant award

4 Where might you find postings of Calls for Proposals, Requests for Proposals, Request for Applications, Notices of Funding Availability, or Program Announcements?
