AIAA OC Section Education Goals Charter: Develop short K-12 level curricula to foster interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Reach out to local colleges to discuss Career Paths, current state of Aerospace Industry and what it takes to be successful in the engineering field Objective:  Identify Top School Districts to focus education efforts  Target: Elementary, High Schools, Colleges  Target one school in each OC Unified School district per month  Alternate between schools/grade levels within districts that work best for volunteers  Education rep will coordinate with schools for date/time/location/activity  Two volunteers per activity  Create pre-canned course materials, aids, and activities to reduce volunteer prep time  Short courses, activities to be conducted on school premises  Volunteers have a choice of short courses, activities – no prep, just download materials and go

Top School Districts to start with -Elementary -Oso Grande Elementary: Capistrano Unified -Arbor Land Montessori– Fullerton -High School -Sunny Hills High School - Fullerton Unified -Anaheim High School – Anaheim Union - “Career Talks” at Colleges -UCI -Cal State Fullerton -Fullerton College

Lesson/Activity Plan Three (3) lesson plans will be available per grade level “Career Talks” materials, template will be provided  Content developed by the volunteer (based on personal experience) Volunteers may choose suggested Lesson Plan Ideas Lesson Plan supplies will either be provided by the chapter or expenses reimbursed  Must keep all receipts  Left over supplies must be brought back to the chapter

Additional Activities Weekends or After Hour events  Rockets 101 (coordinated by John Rose)  Coordinating with the Orange County Girls Scouts  Science Fairs  MATH Counts  First Lego Competition  TARC

Commitment and Expectations Volunteer Commitment  Choose Grade Preference – elementary, high school or college  Select Preferred Date/Time  weekdays for classroom activities (1-1.5 hours commitment)  Evenings or weekends for YMCA, Discovery Science Center, TARC, Rockets 101, etc…  Identify Lesson Plan (that you feel comfortable with)  Provide contact information to Education Chair  This will be passed to School for reference and coordination purposes Volunteer Expectations  Receive Materials from Education Chair or Purchase for reimbursement  Be familiar with lesson plan  Arrive on time and prepared to school or event  Contact school and/or Education Chair of any schedule changes
