Tackling Healthcare Acquired Infections Tackling MRSA and other healthcare acquired infections is a top priority for the Trust DH has made several announcements in the past week, including recommending cohort wards in hospitals: –SaTH was already planning cohort wards: PRH in October and RSH later in January –Cohort wards provide a dedicated care environment for patients with mupirocin- resistant MRSA. This helps to ensure that patients receive the best possible care for this infection, whilst also ensuring that their primary clinical needs continue to be met by hospital specialists. Alongside this, it will help to reduce the spread of MRSA to other patients in our hospitals. –We have developed new patient and visitor leaflets to explain these new arrangements. Other steps include: –Reinforcing our existing policy to only allow two visitors per bed –Updating our screening arrangements –Hand hygiene roadshows at both of our hospitals this week (including today at the Princess Royal Hospital). There are good signs in our performance report that the steps we have already taken in our hospitals are having the right impact, and we are optimistic that these additional measures will continue this.

Towards a Framework of Values As part of our consultation on NHS Foundation Trust status we will also seek views on our proposed framework of values. This will underpin all decision making and strategy in The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as we move forward to NHS Foundation Trust status. It represents a commitment to our patients and communities that the decisions we make will be in the best interests of the people we serve. Our values will also act as a guide to members and governors to support them to contribute to the NHS Foundation Trust.
