Web Resources for your Social Studies Classroom By Adam Schnug

Visuwords Visuwords is an online vocabulary word map. It shows connections and relationships between key words and ideas.

Visuwords Visuwords is a great tool for students to create essays with. Example: Describe the relationship between democracy and dictatorship. Students can use visuwords to find a relationship Visuwords gives them the key points, it’s up to them to fill in the “mortar” of the essay.

toondoo Toondoo is great for creating comic strips or cartoons. It has samples of comics created by students.

toondoo Toondoo can also be used to explain concepts. It’s a great way to quickly assess students understanding of a topic.

Audacity Audacity is a free audio recorder and editor. It can be downloaded on most laptops. Sometimes electronic already come with audacity.

Audacity I used audacity last year to have my students create a radio report of a WWI event. The possibilities for audacity in a social studies classroom can be endless. Student speech can be recorded at home so the student doesn’t have to speak in front of the class.

Bubbl.us Bubbl.us has become incredibly popular the over the last two years. It’s a way for students to create their own mind maps or flow charts.

Bubbl.us I used bubbl.us several two ways last year. 1 st – students created a flow chart for how a bill becomes a law. 2 nd – planning guide for a research investigation

dipity Dipity is a free digital timeline website. Our mission is to organize the web's content by date and time. Users can create, share, embed and collaborate on interactive, visually engaging timelines that integrate video, audio, images, text, links, social media, location and timestamps. You can search for already created timelines as well.

Museum Box Provides the tools for you to build up an argument or description of an event, person or historical period by placing items in a virtual box. As of January they now charge for an account.

Poll Everywhere easy way to gather live responses from your students, whether they are in your classroom or not.

flubaroo You need a google (to create a google form) account for this. Video explaining flubaroo
