6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay3 Vision Statement  The Library is the Centre of Knowledge and Learning. The Librarian is a main facilitator of learning and providing resources and launching a Reading Program in order to develop a Reading Culture at KFS.  As the depository of printed (Bibliotheca) and on-line (digital) information, the Library provides information services that are reliable and valid.  Critical evaluation of information is a primordial task as research is a paramount skill especially on the Internet.

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay4 Summary of My Library Work Experience  Cataloguing, developing and maintaining a private library collection.  Voluntary work at PNFI, Forestry Research Institute Library, Government of Canada, Chalk River, Canada.  With this colleague (Dr. Ben Wang) we produced a publication for FAO, United Nations  Librarian Training for the IBO (Level 3 Workshop in Vancouver, Canada, July, 2010).

Primary Goal: Promote Reading in order to nurture the intellect of future Saudi Leaders 6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay7

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay8 Goals & Objectives Specific measurable objectives: -The Library will increase its classical and contemporary literary collection (literature is the heart of fostering language acquisition). –The Library will increase its reliable web-based on-line subscriptions as the Library becomes a more centralized hub.

How these Goals & Objectives will be achieved? –KFS will provide professional services as to enhance research skills. -The Library will increase the visit numbers for information search -Increase the circulated items and activities in MYP/DP/AD 6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay9

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay10 The Library's Role The Library must create a reading community by introducing activities (DEAR, on-line services to teachers, school-wide Reading Clubs and The Library must become an Information and Knowledge Centre of the Secondary School.

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay11 Additional Goals:  KFS Library: The whole collection should be available for search on-line from the Internet (with login from home). Encourage alumni and members of the KFS Family to donate to the KFS Library.  Develop a more balanced collection after having assessed the existing resources.  Collaborate with other International School libraries (major activities, events and inter-library loans) in order to enhance a variety of resources.

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay12 Setup of the Library  Physical:  Install more computers to create an on-line Information Centre  Additional requirements: –Inviting Reading Corners –Setting up stand-alone research stations –Installing an interactive whiteboard to teach Information Literacy  Personnel requirements: CAS hours can be used for volunteer work in the Library (Re-shelving, creating list of resources, assigned tutoring for students with reading difficulties, etc.)

6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay13 Plans: Key to Success  Using interactive whiteboard for Information Literacy Instruction.  Launching Reading Library Sessions in collaboration with the English Department.  Develop an adequate and appropriate library collection in order to support the curriculum, and instruction  Develop a Library and Information Literacy Continuum.  Address the issues of plagiarism by introducing “Turn-it-in”.  Create a Library website linked to the School’s homepage.  Developing reading –related activities and events (e.g. “Poetry Alive” with follow-up, Open Days for parents, establishing Book Clubs, for the school breaks, etc.)  For the IB, vacant periods could be spent in the Library for collaborative learning, research or consultations with the Librarian.

What Are The New Ideas To Create SUSTAINABLE READING?  In the 21 st century to create Sustainable Reading is achievable only if new technologies are introduced in the Library:  I-Pad, Kindle, Mobile Digital Books and laptops in circulation for students and teachers for Lifelong Learning. Thank you. 6/4/2016by Pierre B. DeLevay14
