Monday 9/17/2012 Tall Figure Andrea Giacometti 1949 Surrealism At first glance this image may look distorted due to it being stretched to fit the computer screen. However, this is the natural state of the sculpture. Why do you think the artist chose to elongate the figure as he did? What purpose or reason do you think was behind this choice? What feeling or sense of mood due you get from this figure and would that change if it weren’t so stretched out?

Tuesday 9/18/2012 Bird in Space Constantin Brancusi 1923 Minimalism Many artists choose to simplify their art to the basic, most essential elements. In this case that element is form. Do you think that the title given to this work relates to how the sculpture looks or is it a reference to something else?

Wednesday 9/19/2012 The Burning of the House of Lords and Commons JMW Turner 1835 Romanticism How would you describe the style of this painting? List as many adjectives that you feel accurately describe the artist’s painting technique. Why do you think the artist chose this method or style of painting?

Thursday 9/20/2012 The Peacock Skirt Aubrey Beardsley 1893 Art Nouveau At the turn of the 20 th century, many artists began incorporating organic, natural qualities into their artwork. How has this artist utilized flowing lines in this work of art? Do these lines help to draw attention to a focal point? What kind of “energy” do you think these lines give the artwork?

Does the time and effort that he put into this painting justify him not coming up with the original idea? Is this “his” art or is it the art of the original comic book artist? Blam Roy Lichtenstein 1962 Pop Art
