May 2011 Monthly Achiever May 2011 Monthly Achiever

Hello everyone! We’ve finished another semester and many of our fellow chapters ended the year with some great activities and fundraisers! Definite dates for National Convention were set and April showers have finally begun to give way to May flowers! All of this and more included in this month’s Achiever!

From Across the Nation Eastern Kentucky University successfully prepared for their plant sale and are getting a jump start on next year’s activities by planning to visit a nursing home, their local children’s hospital, Adopt-A- Highway, and to clean-up areas of their community. Southeast Missouri University hosted a chapter bowling outing, a senior supper, and planned for their meat fundraiser. Tennessee Tech University stayed busy this month as well, working a booth for Relay for Life whose funds go to the American Cancer Society and hosting a chapter cookout.

Spotlight on a National Officer Interesting things you might like to know about your National Secretary, Ms. Terra Stafford: She is a senior at Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Agriculture Education She is involved in Ag Club, Collegiate FFA, the College Curriculum Board, the Social and Physical Environment Committee, DTA and is an Ag Ambassador Terra also coaches a U-10 girls soccer team

Spotlight on a National Officer She enjoys hunting and fishing as well as hanging out and working on her family’s farm Terra says the reason she is involved with agriculture is because she grew up around it She wants to be a teacher because she wants to share her love and passion for agriculture with others Terra and her mother hunting together.

National Convention 2012 The 2012 DTA Convention will be April 5-7 at the University of Central Missouri. We still need a host school from the Southern region for the 2013 convention so members in this region, please talk to your members and advisors!!!!! Convention is such a vital part of keeping our members connected across the nation, we need your help to ensure we can continue to do so in 2013!!!!!

DTA Merchandise is available at: Honor cords (solid color set or intertwined colors) for graduating DTA seniors are available for $15 a set, graduation medallions are available for $20, or graduation stoles are available for $20. Lapel pins are available for $8.50 Brief bags with the DTA logo are $49 Fleece pullovers with the DTA logo are $40 *Shipping is not included on any of these prices and payment is expected when the order is submitted. * If you or your chapter are interested in ordering anything, your advisor should contact

Now that we know a bit more about our fellow chapters, have gotten to know our National Secretary, received definite dates for National Convention, and learned about DTA merchandise, it’s time for Summer Break!!!!! I hope everyone enjoys their break and gains some great experience from their internships for those who have them! Whatever you do, have fun, be safe and look for your next update on National DTA coming in September!
