How Do Populations Grow? Biology Standard 6 Population Growth

Group of orgs that belong to same species and live in a given area. Pops grow 2 ways: exponential/logistic Populations

When an org has ‘ideal’ conditions for growth (lots of food, room for babies, protection, no competition) Exponential Growth

Controlled growth and reproduction. Limited! Logistic Growth

Size of a pop that can survive “healthfully” in a given area. Over c.c., death/disease occur Carrying Capacity

Pop increases, births and immigration > deaths and emigration. Population decreases, deaths and emigration > births and immigration. When a pop is stable, births and immigration = deaths and emigration Pop. Growth Rules
