Designers employed by smaller firms may work in smaller, more congested environments. Designers who freelance usually work evenings and weekends in their own offices or studios.

Entry-level technical positions require a 2- year associate degree. On-the-job training for 1 to 3 years is required to advance to higher positions. Experience in marketing and business management is also helpful.
