Olympics Every four years the ancient Greeks would go to the Olympics and they did it to honour the gods Zeus and Hera. Back then the men didn’t allow the women compete. The event was called Olympics because the ancient Greeks did the sports in Olympia. In 393 AD the roman emperor Theodosius banned the games. The games started in the year 776 BC.
