Types of Paint Latex- or water based paint Quick drying This paint is easy to apply however it does not adhere to all surfaces such as bare wood or surfaces previously painted by alkyd paint Most common paint found in homes Solvent based paint ALKYD Made out of oil or synthetic resin Dries more quickly than pure oil paint Doesn’t contain lead Durable finish can be washed You have to clean bushes with mineral spirits to remove the paint

Moldings Paint moldings found in homes with accent color or white Usually you will use a semi-gloss for these trims Three types of moldings Crown- top of room Base- bottom next to flooring Chair rail placed about chair height around room

Moldings

Wallpaper Wallpaper has been around since the 16 th century Vinyl and vinyl coating wallpaper are the most common Easy to clean Wall paper comes in rolls This will be hung in strips Then the pattern must be matched Some only use boarders which are placed along the top of the ceiling or above the chair rails.

Calculations One gallon of paint generally covers 350 square feet of wall To calculate paint: L+L+W+W x ceiling height / 350 = gal X 8 = 672/350= 2 gal.

One roll of wallpaper covers 36 feet L+L+W+W x ceiling height / x 8 = 672/36= =19 rls
