Reading Is Fundamental Read With Me: The 2005 RIF ® Community Reading Challenge Presented by MetLife Foundation

RIF’s Mission Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), founded in 1966, works to build a literate nation by helping young people discover the joy of reading. RIF… Shows children that reading is fun. Provides free books for children to choose and keep. Helps communities get involved with children’s and family literacy.

RIF Facts The oldest and largest children’s and family nonprofit literacy organization in the U.S. Operates through a national, grassroots network of volunteers. Highest priority is to serve the nation’s underserved children and families. Develops and delivers literacy programs and campaigns that motivate youth to read regularly.

Read With Me: The 2005 RIF ® Community Reading Challenge A national reading event for RIF sites across the country that inspires children to be lifelong readers. Kids, families, and community members come together for two fun-filled weeks of creative literacy activities. The goal is to make reading a priority for everyone in the community.

When Is the Challenge? January – February [provide exact dates]

Why Should I Get Involved? The Community Reading Challenge needs community participation to succeed. RIF sites are seeking volunteers to read to and with children. You can show kids that their community supports literacy. It’s fun!

How Do I Get Involved? Tell your Team Leader that you’re interested in volunteering. Work with your Team Leader to determine what you want to do and how much time you can volunteer to help with the challenge.

What Can I Do? Help plan and publicize events Raise funds or donations Be a guest reader or book buddy Dress as a costumed character Serve refreshments Assist with a book distribution
