INTERNATIONAL UNIDO WORKSHOP ON ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND SUSTAINABLE TEXTILE PRODUCTION Final Evaluation Report Presented by Çağlar SİVRİ, M.Sc., Specialist October, 2011 Bursa-TÜRKİYE

Summary of Ideas and Discussions Made During Workshop “Waste Reduction Is Even Better Than Recycling!”-it’s hard to recover everything from disposal or in other words no technique available to achieve this aim. “The energy is consumed during recycling, will it be a sustainable process actually”. Sustainable Community Consumer Society Raising transnational awareness on that issue. The community has already started going from a Sustainable Community to a Consumer Society.

Overall Evaluation of The Present Situation in the World Use of natural dyes instead of petrochemical dyestuffs Photovoltaics, solar systems and wind power are the forefronts of the renewable technologies One another alternative source which not included in this training program is “the use of green algae for energy generation and also for the waste water treatment”. They are mainly found in oceans. They are renewable or in other words are “reproducable” and also bio-degradable due to its nature of origin.

We should develop new and cleaner techniques for the reuse of the materials but when the general situation considered,” there is no actual and common policy in the worldwide” Overall Evaluation of The Present Situation in the World

Actually, what I have seen from the technical visits to the waste water and solid waste treatment facilities in Bursa and Istanbul, the trend was more about using “biological waste treatment”. We have capable and accredited laboratories in Turkey such as Tubitak Butal in Bursa helping companies to test their waste samples The eco-labeling has become a common application in Turkey but some companies are suffering from the usage of these labels by another companies without permission. Overall Evaluation of The Present Situation in the Turkey

Some of information provided in this workshop is mainly avaliable for the lab-scale applications, there is still much more distance should be covered for the industrial-large scale applications. The participants coming from different countries contributed much in that their experiences and shared the most up-to-date information available in their countries. I am sure that this interaction will result in new co- operations. Finally, I would like to thank to the organizing committee of the workshop for this very collaborative event. Conclusion

Thank you for your attention…
