High School Arts Content Standards 2.0 Creative Expression  2.6 Create a three-dimensional work of art that addresses a social issue. 4.0 Aesthetic Valuing  4.3 Formulate a position regarding the aesthetic value of a specific work of art and change or defend that position after considering the views of others.

Medallions & Pendants  A medallion is generally a circular object that has been sculpted, molded, cast, struck, stamped, or some way marked with an insignia, portrait, or other artistic representation.  A pendant is an adornment that hangs on a cord or chain, worn as jewelry.

Make Three  One for Relay for Life fundraiser Overnight relay-style event Teams of people camp out around a track Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event Benefits the American Cancer Society  One for ceramics supply fundraiser Ceramic show and sale on campus  One for you to keep or give as a gift

How to Make 1. Roll clay out about 3/8 of an inch thick for medallions and pendants. You can do this with a rolling pin using two wooden rulers as guides.

How to Make 2. Cut out the shapes you want from the rolled out clay. Stamp or carve into the clay to decorate your medallions, pendants and charms.

How to Make You can also place leaves on the clay and use a rolling pin to flatten in the leaf, use stamps or anything you can find around your house with interesting texture.

How to Make 3. Make a hole in the pendant where you would want to attach the cord.

How to Make If you want, you can make a tube instead of a hole for the string. (It must have a way to attach a cord.)

Pendants don’t have to be FLAT (It’s better if they are not!)

More Pictures (They do not need to be a geometric shape.)
