Macbeth Shakespeare Written in 1606 for King James I of England How does Shakespeare’s Macbeth change and show true human nature and man’s eternal quest for power in his play? Create a thesis statement below. Then, write your essay. Be sure to use supporting evidence from both documents; Shakespeare: The Background of Macbeth and Shakespeare’s Scottish Play, Macbeth.

Shakespeare – The Background of Macbeth Read this article and answer the questions on the back. Be sure to write your thesis statement on the bottom of the page.

Macbeth Literary Analysis #1 Evidence and Analysis:  Thorough and convincing evidence and explanation (elaboration) for main idea  Effective use of sources, facts, details  Precise citations (tag lines)  Variety – quotes, definitions, examples  Academic and domain-specific vocabulary  Various sentence structures

Evidence and Elaboration Example: In Act I Scene I of Macbeth, the background music truly helps convey the ominous tone. Immediately after the three witches finished burying the severed hand and dagger you hear a pulsing drumbeat, similar to a heart beat. It gradually speeds up, creating a sense of suspense, danger, and fear because it reminds you of the sensation of an increasing heartbeat and the surge of adrenaline that you get when frightened.

Evidence and Elaboration Example: Lady Macbeth is a significant character who possesses many faces. To emphasize her emotions Polanski adds music whilst major scenes are taking place. When Lady Macbeth prays for the evil spirits to “unsex” her and give her strength, soft music is played in the background to bring attention upon her determined face to illustrate those very emotions not only with words but with instruments as well. With music involved, the characters expressions can be seen at a different point of view that generates more meaning within the play itself.
