Service Learning Projects ReKasa Deen

Why Volunteer?  Choosing to be a volunteer is a very rewarding experience.  Volunteering is a way to give back to your community.  Being a volunteer can sufficiently benefit the agency or business you are working for.

Victory for Victoria! Victoria Newsome was a little girl who suffered from the brain cancer medulloblastoma. My Valdosta Sate class supported the Victory for Victoria cause by participating in a run for her.

Adopt a Child for Christmas Christmas time is a time filled with joy and laughter, but for some families it is a reminder of the poverty they live in. To help out a suffering family, I participated in the “Adopt a Child for Christmas” program. I purchased gifts for a little girl. A new baby doll and clothes for the doll were among the gifts in the Disney princess bag a happy little girl received on Christmas morning. I also included a letter from Santa letting the little girl know that she had been on his nice list all year long. I did not forget the most important part, to enclose something explaining the true meaning of Christmas.

Holly Hill Nursing Home  Volunteering at the Holly Hill Nursing Home in Valdosta was fun and rewarding for me. Delivering snacks, painting nails, and visiting with residents were among my activities.

Holly Hill Nursing Home The Ladies of Holly Hill loved having their nails painted!

Holly Hill Nursing Home

Nursery Work  It is important for parents to be able to sit in church, listen to the message, and know that their children are being well taken care of while doing so.  Being a nursery worker at my church allows me to assist parents in getting the most from church sermons.

Goodwill Industries

 Goodwill is an organization involved in the effort to help others reach their full potential by facilitating employment.  As a volunteer I assisted employees with hanging and sorting clothing.
