Land Use How do we use the land the we live on? One example of a type of land use is commercial, which means that we build stores and other businesses that sell things.

Residential Residential land includes all of the places that people live (such as homes and apartment buildings) It is the largest land use in most cities

Which one of these pictures shows the the area that would have the MOST people living in it?

Institutional This type of land is used for buildings such as schools, hospitals, government offices, and churches

Industrial This type of land is used for things such as factories, warehousing (storage), and shipping products.

Commercial Commercial land use involves areas used in the buying and selling. Anywhere that someone is selling something is commercial land.

Recreational Recreational land is used for areas such as parks, playgrounds, golf courses, and arenas.

Transportation This land is used to transport people and goods. It includes roads, bike paths, train tracks, airports and docks.

Agricultural This land is used for growing crops and livestock.

Crown Land This is land that the government owns. The government decides what the land can be used for. Much of the forest around Red Lake is crown land.

First Nations Land This is land that is owned by a specific Native band. The Pikangikum First Nation community is an example of this type of land use.
