 Drill: What does “Islam” Mean?  HW: Complete Compare/Contrast Chart  Obj: Identify and describe the beliefs and practices of Islam

 They are written in the Koran  They are to be followed if you would like to reach Paradise or the after-life

 There is no God but Allah  Mohammed is his messenger (prophet)  They may believe in no other God but Allah.  There are NO pictures or drawings of Mohammed or Allah.

 Salat means worship  Muslims must pray 5 times a day facing Mecca (the Holy City)  On Fridays, Muslims should pray together at a Mosque

 Muslims must pay part of their income to help to the poor.  This money pays for schools, hospitals and fountains.

 Each year during the month of Ramadan, Muslims should fast or not eat from sun up to sun down.  Ramadan ends with a large feast.

 All Muslims should try and make a trip to Mecca, Saudi Arabia in their lifetime.  Visit the Kaba or Black Stone in Mecca and circle it to show devotion to Allah
