2 K – Koran Islam’s Holy Book is called the Koran (Quran) The Koran contains ethical guidelines to live by as determined by God (Allah) This book was written by a prophet named Muhammad Islam Studies the KORAN

3 O – Origin of Islam Islam began in the country of Saudi Arabia and followers of Islam are called Muslims Three cities of Saudi Arabia are important to Islam: 1.Mecca – the place Muhammad was born 2.Medina – the place Islam began 3.Jerusalem – the place Muhammad left for the afterlife Islam Studies the KORAN

5 R – Religious Law The Islamic Law is based on the Five Pillars of Faith 1.Faith in Allah 2.Prayer 5 times a day facing the holy city of Mecca 3.Giving to the poor 4.Fasting during Ramadan 5.Pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca Islam Studies the KORAN

6 A – Allah Allah is an all powerful being who created everything Similar to the God of the Jews and Christians, Islam believes Allah offers salvation and hope of an afterlife Islam Studies the KORAN

7 N – New Prophet Muhammad is the founder of Islam Muhammad is not considered divine like Jesus to the Christians Similar to Moses, he received a revelation from God Islam Studies the KORAN
