“The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell Let’s read this story together! Pay attention to characters.

What is foreshadowing? An author’s use of clues that hint at event that will occur later in the plot (story). Foreshadowing often helps to build suspense as well as to prepare readers for what is to come.

What is Suspense? Suspense is a feeling. The growing interest and excitement readers experience while awaiting the climax or resolution (the end of the story).

What is Conflict? The struggle between opposing forces in a story or play. An external conflict exists when a character struggles with an outside force: another character, nature, society, fate. An internal conflict exists when a character struggles with their own mind.

Format for the Plot Diagram Exposition --introduces the characters, background and setting Conflict -- struggle between opposing forces Rising Action -- three statements that summarize the story Climax-- point where the protagonist changes Falling action -- one statement about what leads to the end of the conflict Resolution -- the end of the conflict
