CAPITOL  The capitol of Brazil is Brasilia.  Brasilia has been the capitol of Brazil since  Before Brasilia, Rio de Janiero was the capitol, and before Rio, Salvador was the capitol. Map of Brazil

BRAZIL’S FLAG  The Brazilian flag is green, yellow, blue, and white.  The green and yellow sections of the flag were used from an older flag for Brazil.  “Ordem e Progresso” is Brazil’s motto and it means “order and progress.”  Just like on the American flag the stars show how many states there are. LOCATION OF BRAZIL  Brazil is on the continent of South America.  Brazil’s neighbors are Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.  The only South American countries Brazil doesn’t border are Chile and Ecuador. GEOGRAPHY OF BRAZIL  Interesting things about the Amazon river:  The Amazon river is greater than three of the largest rivers in the world put together. It is almost 4,000 miles long.  The Amazon River is the widest river in the world. BRAZIL’S CLIMATE  Brazil has five different climate zones: 1. An equatorial zone, which means it has rainforests because it stays warm and wet. 2. A tropical zone, which means it has a consistent warm temperature all year round, and the only difference in the seasons is how much rain there is. A highland tropical zone, also called a oceanic climate, which has cool summers and warm winters, and consistent rainfall. 5. BRAZIL’S CULTURE  The Brazilian culture is one of the world’s most varied and diverse.  Carnival is probably the most famous holiday in Brazil it is a time when people all over this country can get together and have fun and enjoy one another's company.  Most Brazilians are very welcoming men shake hands when meeting with one another women will “peck” each other on the cheek. BRAZIL’S LANGUAGE  Most Brazilians speak Portuguese because long ago the Portuguese colonized Brazil  Brazil is the only country in South America that doesn’t have Spanish as their national language.  “Ola” means hello and “Adeus” means goodbye as you can probably see Portuguese is close to the Spanish language

RELIGION IN BRAZIL  The most popular religion in brazil is Catholicism  The 2010 survey shows that 65% of Brazilians call themselves Catholic, down from 90% in Ancient Brazilian Art

CURRENCY OF BRAZIL The money in Brazil is called “real.” The plural is “reais.” One real is worth $0.45. Like the US dollar, one real is divided into 100 cents or centavos. The picture on the front of all their paper money is of a statue that represents the Republic of Brazil. On the ten real bill, though, the picture is of Pedro Alvares Cabral, a Portuguese navigator who was the first European to explore Brazil. BRAZIL’S POPULATION  Compared to the US, Brazil has less people. Compared to Mexico, Brazil has more people.  In 2012, Brazil had million people.  Most Brazilians live within 200 miles of the coast, while the interior in the Amazon Basin is almost empty.  Brazilians are made up mainly of four ethnic groups: Amerindians, Europeans, Africans, and Asians. CLOTHING IN BRAZIL Brazilian Native Clothing.  Brazilian clothing that you might have found back when there were no companies to make clothes were a lot different than the everyday clothes they wear now.  For example: The native men of Brazil wore skirts but now it would be strange if you saw a man walking down the street in a skirt.
