4 Amazon Rainforest Largest tropical rainforest Roughly the size of the forty-eight contiguous United States Covers some 40% of the South American continent and including parts of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana Consists of a number of ecosystems ranging from natural savanna to swamps

5 Amazon River Most voluminous river on Earth Drains an area equivalent in size to the United States in to the Atlantic Ocean River current carries tons of suspended sediment all the way from the Andes and gives the river a characteristic muddy whitewater appearance The result from the silt deposited at the mouth of the Amazon is Majaro It’s a river island about the size of Switzerland.

6 Andes Mountains Longest mountain range in the world and boasts some of the highest peaks (4,500 miles) Known for its volcanoes Translates to "high crest“ Located along the entire western coast of South America Spans across 7 countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina

7 Yucatan Peninsula Yucatan Peninsula is a mix of beaches and jungles Peninsula is a large land mass in southeast Mexico While it's mainly in Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula also includes Belize and the northern portion of Guatemala

8 Climate: Central America Dozens of climate zones Tropical humid climate No real winter Rainfall occurs regularly Predictions show warmer climate and less rainfall which is bad for agriculture and survival of many species Future climate may result into forest fires, high sea surface temperatures

9 Climate: South America Wet & hot, humid Amount of rainfall depends on location Gran Chaco in Argentina has the highest temperatures Quibdo in Columbia has the most rainfall Tropical and tropical savanna in the north Humid subtropical in the southeast

10 Climate: Caribbean Islands Heavy rains during September to February Known for many hurricanes Tropical storms Daylight hours tend to be shorter during summer and slightly longer during winter The wettest months are from May to October
