ANIMAL KINGDOM CLASSIFICATION Animals can be grouped into two large categories: Vertebrates and Invertebrates. Vertebrates have backbones and invertebrates.
Animal Classification
Invertebrates. Characteristics of Invertebrates Simplest animals Contain the greatest number of different species Most are aquatic (found in water) Do.
INVERTEBRATE COMPARATIVE ANATOMY. Invertebrates make up 95% of the animal world. While there is a lot of variation among invertebrates, all of them lack.
Invertebrates Invertebrates are animals without a backbone.

The Animal Kingdom By Ashley Reed W201 W201

What is the Animal Kingdom??  All the different types of animals on earth  How we classify the animals, since there is are so many  They are classified by their similarities!  Now lets look at how we classify…

A General Classification Method…  Invertebrates:  Animals without a back bone  Examples: Insects, Spiders, Starfish, Octopus  Vertebrates:  Animals with a back bone  Examples: Tigers, Fish, Birds, Mice, Frogs, Dogs

Scientific Classification…  Animals are sorted into groups called, Phyla according to their characteristics.  Main Phyla Groups Coelenterates Annelids Platyhelminths Echinoderms Molluscs Arthropods Chordates

The Different Phyla  Coelenterates  Soft, hollow body with stinging tentacles  Jellyfish  Annelids  Cylindrical, worm-like body with segments  Earthworms

The Different Phyla  Platyhelminths  Flat, worm-like body  Tapeworms, flatworms  Echinoderms  Radial symmetry. Spiny skin. Body in 5 sections  Starfish

The Different Phyla  Molluscs  Soft body, usually inside one or two shells  Snails  Arthropods  Hard outer skeleton Jointed legs  Spiders, crabs

The Different Phyla CCCChordates IIIInner, bony skeleton with a backbone FFFFish, Humans, Dogs, Birds, Cats
