He was the first black player in the MLB. Branch Rickey (Dodgers owner) is the reason Jackie was able to be in the MLB. He played outstanding defense all over the field, but the importance stretched far beyond what he did between the foul poles. Even though he was getting bad results from the players and the audience he still took it and stayed on the team. There were note’s threatening to kill him and they said we have already got rid of a lot of you and one was just found in a river. Jackie was the reason black people are playing in the MLB today.
