L OCATION

C ONSTRUCTION S ITE We were told to use the area above the rose gardens for our performing arts centre and were told that parts of surrounding buildings could be demolished or moved if the performing arts centre cut into it. It was easiest to insert a map of the school grounds onto sketchup and start building the performing arts centre onto it so you could easily see where it would be positioned. the glass lift cuts into science block, the entrance and foyer cut into music house and the stage cuts into the sports field.

F LOORS /L EVELS A glass elevator provides access to all three levels. The main elevator is located in the corner- cutting into science block. Another elevator is located on the side of backstage and leads underground to a practice area.

S TAGE The auditorium is made up of a crescent-shaped stage. It has a large semi-circular area for performances while the crescent-shaped part of the stage in used for backstage, prop storage and backdrop storage. There is a glass elevator in the corner of backstage to provide access to an underground practice area.

C LASSROOMS On both level two and level three all classrooms double as speech and drama classrooms, a staff room, music itinerant rooms and music and music technology classrooms. Dance studies also doubling as large drama studios are situated on level three and level one where an orchestra/choir room is located. Bathrooms are found on level three, level one and underground in the practice area.

F OYER /E NTRANCE An entrance to the centre can be found in the driveway between music block and music house. (m1 and m10.) a ticket sales booth is inside with a window which allows for ticket sales from outside. There is a large foyer which can accommodate people before shows and after. There is a fountain outside the entrance.

W INDOWS I wasn’t entirely sure whether we had to put windows or not as we weren’t required to put a roof on- but I added some just in case. There are long windows in the lower level dance studio and choir/orchestra room as they are larger rooms and small windows on the higher levels.

C ONCEPTUAL D ESIGNS Original planning documents were lost in classroom.
