Welcome to Ms. Zaruba’s Math Class

I will treat your child like I treat my own 2 kids. High expectations Effort is non-negotiable Accountability Do things right – do the right thing Love & Consequences Every day is a new day – 2 nd chances

Textbooks & Resources: Textbooks this year are consumable. If your child loses it, you will need to print off homework assignments from online resource or pay $95 to replace it. Additional video instruction:

Homework: I will assign homework on a regular basis & expect it to be completed. Homework will not receive a grade in the gradebook, but will still be recorded in the gradebook if not completed (MSG). If completed, it will be listed as a “1” but not factored into student’s average. Pre/reteaching videos will be on Edmodo nightly. I will also post answers for nightly homework so students can ask for help if they don’t understand how to get a correct answer. Every night, your student should log into Edmodo to check their homework for accuracy. It is the responsibility of the student to seek help if they do not understand how to do a problem. Students are required to show their work in their math journal, not in the textbook. Homework without shown work will be recorded as missing in the gradebook.

Minor Summatives: Students may not reassess minor summatives (quizzes, exit tickets, Plickers, etc). All homework quizzes come directly from the homework that week so there is no reason a student should do poorly on any Homework Quiz if they have done the homework, checked the answers on Edmodo, and attended tutoring. Minor summative scores can only be changed by demonstration of mastery of standards through major summatives. Example: If your student does poorly on the Homework Quiz but demonstrates mastery of the concept on the major summative (common assessment), the grade for the minor summative for that standard will then be changed.

Major Summatives: Students may reassess major summatives (common assessments) if they have completed the necessary steps required for reassessment. Students who score below 70 will be required to reassessed & will have 10 days to correct the test, complete any missing homework, attend tutoring &/or complete the Additional Remediation Assignment, and come before/afterschool for reassessment. Student who score above 70 may request reassessment & have 10 days to complete the above requirements. Reassessment days are Wed from 3:30-4:30 pm or Fri from 7:45-8:15 am.

Each Student login gets one Parent login code. Students & parents can join Edmodo to look at notes, assignments, homework answers, pre/reteaching videos, etc. Edmodo is used quite a bit in 7 th grade, so make it a part of your regular 7 th grade daily routine.

Parent Connection: Every parent should login to HAC. You will automatically receive an if your student is missing an assignment or scores below a 70. Students should also login to HAC on a regular basis to monitor grades and keep up with assignments.
