Your principal thinks that the students in your school are not fit. He has asked your group to give a talk to Form 1 students about how to get fit. You Are now discussing what to say. Set 9.2 (2003)

Our principal has asked us to give a talk to Form 1 students about how to keep fit.It is because he thinks that the students in our school are not fit.. We should now discuss what to say at the talk. First of all, let’s talk about the kinds of food our students should e. Start the discussion Asking for opinions OK!

I think we should advise students to good food. They like to eat food which is bad. That is a good idea! But what kinds of food are good? Giving an idea Agreeing with question

Food that is good to your health, of course. Now many students prefer snacks which are not good to their health I can give examples of good food. Fruit, cereals, vegetable, fish are all kinds of good food. I like them very much. Giving an explanation Giving examples

You’re right. We should explain to them that it’s important to eat good food every day. But the problem is our Tuck Shop always sell junk food like instant noodles and potato chips. It’s not a big problem. We can advise the principal about this. The shop should sell other kinds of food. Giving a solution to the problem Showing support and giving a new idea

I think the Tuck Shop should sell fruit and fresh milk. They are wholesome food. But we have to start talking about the next point, or we won’t have enough time. Sure. Do you have any new ideas? Lead the discussion Agreeing and asking for ideas

Students must be encouraged to do more exercise. At school, more ball games can be organised after school. You’re right. Teams from different classes can compete in games. Prizes should be given out. Giving an idea with a reason Give supporting ideas with reasons

I am crazy swimming about. However I have no time to swim after school and I am usually too tired after school. Can the school open the swimming pool on Saturdays. I agree with you. Competitions are great fun. Adding a point Agreeing with a reason

Don’t forget computer games! Let’s move on to the next point about sleep. We have agreed to suggest good food and more exercise. I think enough sleep is also important. Many of our students don’t have enough sleep. What do you think? Reminding Move on to a point Summarize ideas Asking for new ideas

He!He! Like me, the students play computer games too much. They don’t have enough time to sleep well. Computer games? What do you mean? Asking for clarification Silly you!. Giving an explanation

They must be told not to play computer games too much. If they do, they may sleep in class and fail their exams. They must sleep for 7-8 hours every night. So much for sleep. Let’s move on to things students should not do. Surely, they should not play computer games too much. Besides they should not smoke. Smoking is bad to health. Many students worry too much about their studies. They should just try their best but not worry. Lead the discussion Giving new ideas with supporting details

It is difficult not to worry. After all, we have to take the HKCEE in Form 5. If you don’t worry, you don’t want to study. You are right! Disagreeing with a reason / a new idea Show support Yes.But I think students should worry less. Make concessions

Summarize points and lead the discussion Finish the discussion with your group members.
