Presentation transcript:

Purpose To move its students to greater success with college and career readiness and in other state priorities the CVUSD LCAP Leadership Team will reflect individually and as a team on LCAP actions using a logic map, research on high- quality implementation, and the Annual Update. It will engage its stakeholders in a meaningful cycle of inquiry to ensure that the best actions and services are provided and measurable outcomes are met or exceeded.

Outcomes for Today This is hard work – why? Leaving a legacy Be able to summarize differences between actions, services and measurable outcomes in a logic model Summarize other logic model processes Learn how to document actions in the LCAP for use in the Annual Update Start to document priority actions for which members are leads and debrief

Outcomes for Today Review last week's highlights Update on text transition, expenditures Practice a method by which we share our Actual Actions/Service Reports. Tuning Protocol Organize the stakeholder groups we will share actual actions/services. Look at ways to determine their priorities.

Legacy What legacy would you like to leave to the community/district? What accomplishment/contribution do you want to be remembered for?

Annual Update Questions

Transparent, Collaborative, Effective, Transformative Final ES FS Review to 7-31

Empowering Local Communities “LCFF is unprecedented. It seeks to combine a state school funding mechanism aimed at more equitable distribution of resources to students needing the most support with a decision making process that moves power from the state to local communities. It is, indeed, a grand vision, as ambitious and noble an agenda as any state has set.” Toward a Grand Vision: October 2014

What’s a Logic Map or Logic Model? “A logic model is a systematic and visual way to present and share your understanding of the relationships among the resources you have to operate your program, the activities you plan, and the changes or results you hope to achieve” W.K. Kellogg Foundation Logic Model Development Guide In other words

Logic Maps and LCAP In LCAP terms for today’s example: A logic map or model is a graphic depiction of how LCFF funding is used to take actions that enhance educators’ skills and dispositions so educators provide services that enable students to perform to rigorous standards, become college and career ready, and have more options for a happy, productive life.

Using Logic Models/Maps

Actions Resources/ Inputs Services Short term measurable outcomes Long term measurable outcomes-metrics

Using Logic Models/Maps for LCAP Implementation Repeat the previous model slide and add the same graphic but with these LCAP labels in the boxes: Resources/Inputs Actions Services Short term measureable outcomes Longer term measureable outcomes 23

Why Use a Logic Map/Model? Its use provides “a system to strategically monitor, manage, and report program outcomes throughout development and implementation.”

Through each iteration, we become more clear in our implementation efforts.

Logic Map for Completing Update This has the same steps as the previous slide in a vertical format. It contains only the text from the first row.

Can’t Focus on All What are the district priorities? How should we deploy the district team? How does delegation and deployment work with stakeholders?

Can’t Focus on All Who are the stakeholders? Students, parents, DLAC, PAC, teachers, classified, principals, union, board, advocates, others What are their priorities? Prepping data or documentation Facilitating the dialogue and feedback.

Student Success All students in Riverside County will graduate from high school well prepared for college and the workforce.

Jargon: Logic Model/Map LCAP Activity Output Impact Action Service Measureable Outcome 30

Actions, Services, Measurable Outcomes A waiter’s tale. 31

Actions, Services, Measurable Outcomes Orientation. Shadowing to learn service standards. Coaching by a mentor on service standards. Seminars with the chef. Wine tastings and pairings. Prompt. Courteous. Anticipation/Timing. Knowledgeable about the menu. Knowledgeable about wine pairings. Food Beverage Service. 32 ACTIONS SERVICES

Measurable Outcome for the Waiter Provide high quality service to customers as measured by % gratuity from each table. Save enough money by the deadline to have a $10,000 down payment on house.

Measurable Improved skills, knowledge, behavior, attitudes, or dispositions of students or parents that are most often measured by quantifiable metrics but can be measured qualitatively. Student work may be the earliest measureable outcomes for students. Outcomes: Services: What educators provide to clients (students and parents) to promote improved skills, knowledge, behavior, attitudes, or dispositions. TermDefinitions Actions: What educators do with their resources to promote the provisions of high-quality service to clients (students or parents). Actions are the processes, tools, events, and technology that are an intentional part of the program to improve services. Examples Actions may include training educators, convening networks of educators to share ideas and improve knowledge or skills, and providing systems of feedback such as coaching to foster improvement. Examples of services include research- based interventions with families to eliminate a student’s chronic absenteeism, teaching EL students using the best researched-based practices to promote a college-going culture in a school. Examples of measurable outcomes include a higher rate of reclassification for ELs, a lower rate of chronic absenteeism, and an improved college enrollment rate a s documented by StudentTracker. Defining Actions, Services, and Measureable Outcomes Using LCAP and Logic Maps

FAFSA Actions, Services, and Outcomes Teach counselors the fine points of filling out FAFSA. Teach a student how to fill out a FAFSA accurately. A student submits an accurate FAFSA on time. Encourage/Incentivize families to finish on time. Counselors collaborate to get families to come. Action Service Measurable Outcome Service Action

Theory of Action Well executed, high-quality actions lead to services provided to clients with fidelity* Services provided with fidelity lead to improved measureable outcomes.

Theory of Action Improved measurable outcomes lead to higher rates of college and career readiness. Higher rates of college and career readiness lead to more students completing college or entering a career..

Theory of Action More students completing college or entering a career lead to more life options for students and more chances for a higher standard of living and better life. *Fidelity: The degree to which a copy of something shows the true character of the original: Cambridge Dictionary
