THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY Part of chain of valleys- extends 3,000 miles 60 miles wide at some parts Walls more than 6,000 ft in some places Formed by tectonic plates that separated and created deep cracks or rifts

Great Rift Valley- lakes Plate movement created lakes low spots filled with rainwater Lake Tanganyika 4,700 ft deep Second deepest freshwater lake in the world Longest lake – 410 miles

Plateaus and Savannas Higher elevation of plateaus in Ethiopia and Kenya means the temperatures are coolers even though it is near the equator
