MISSION The Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study supports new research and educational collaborations between UC Berkeley and Norwegian universities. It works towards the following goals:  facilitating scholarly exchange and collaborations  serving as an administrative hub for ongoing faculty research and pedagogical activity  sponsoring academic and public events  Deepening and broadening ties between the UC Berkeley scolarly community and the scholarly community in Norway The Center serves faculty, graduate students and post-doctoral fellows at Berkeley and in Norway

AREAS OF RESEARCH COLLABORATION The intellectual agenda of the Center will evolve with the priorities set by the Peder Sather Center leadership:  Climate change and weather; environmental studies  Renewable energy, conservation, smart buildings  Human rights norms; immigration; inequalities  Brain science/neurosciences  Education systems/teacher training/pedagogy  Behavioral economics; competition policy; business  Cultural history; media studies  Language and literature

The Norwegian PSC Consortium Consortium Board Chair –Rector Ole Petter Ottersen, UiO Consortium Board – 9 members –Rectors of the 8 academic institutions –Director of the Research Council of Norway Norwegian Advisory Board – 9 members –Deputy Rectors or Deans of the 8 academic institutions –RCN Director of Department for Cooperation and Development Research Norwegian Secretariat –At the University of Oslo, University Management Office & Department of Research Administration

The Norwegian PSC Advisory Board Formed to ensure broad representation of participating member universities Main point of contact between member institutions and the Center Provide input on the intellectual agenda and activities eligible for support Build awareness of the Center on their campuses (outreach; advocating) Serve as a resource for the Executive Director in matters such as coordination of the application process

PSC activities and benefiting parties The Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study will organize scholarly activities that promote international cooperation, understanding, and the advancement of knowledge. Activities and persons eligible for support from PSC (some examples):  group research awards  special short-term visiting lectureships  one-time workshops  conferences and seminars  visiting post-doctors, visiting scholars (i.e., faculty)  visiting graduate students Awards will be determined annually by the Executive Committee

BECCLE Bergen Center for Competition Law and Economics BECCLE, headed by professors Tommy Stahl Gabrielsen (UiB) and Lars Sørgard (NHH), cooperates with leading UC Berkeley economics and law faculty, e.g. people at CPC. The cooperation includes research, seminars and teaching. In addition to NHH (econ) and UiB (econ; law), BI (econ) and UiO (law) are also involved in BECCLE research activities. The Choice Lab – more extensive cooperation The Choice Lab, NHH’s research group on experimental economics headed by professors Bertil Tungodden and Alexander Cappelen, cooperates with leading UC Berkeley economics faculty, e.g. people at Xlab and CEGA. The cooperation includes research, experiments, seminars and teaching.

NHH and UC Berkeley: Expectations for the future Research cooperation between NHH and UC Berkeley in relevant research programs in business, management and economics: BECCLE and ChoiceLab will have priority… Conferences, seminars, workshops, guest lectures Visiting scholars (faculty at all levels) PhD cooperation RfP
