Chart Present situation Spanish coordination CBUC’s activities

Present situation 6 regional consortia –(40 universities, 60% out of the whole) The aggregators establish virtual consortia where there are no regional ones Ministry of Education’s help for the ISI- WoS license

Licences Tendency of all consortia to license the same products Arisal of new problems: –Journal movement between publishers –Statistics analysis –Link maintenance –Internal cost distribution formulae

Spanish Coordination First meeting between consortia in 2002 –6 meetings up to now Will for coordination and joint licensing –Up to now: Wiley

Nationwide licenses Difficulties –Regional financing of universities –No state money –Licenses expire in different years –Different approaches (p+e or e!) –Distance and difficulty meet frequently –Mistrust (?)

Coordination aims 2005 Elsevier (many problems due to a new pricing model) KLI (because of the Kluwer partition into two groups) Compendex Cell Press VAT reduction

A restraint to coordination 60% universities belong to a consortium The rest –Some have joined purchasing coalitions –Some have joined aggregators consortia Two possible models –Coordination of the existing consortia –Nationwide purchase through the Rectors’ Conference
