Chatrooms are highly dangerous because you could give out too much personal information to strangers that want to harm you and maybe even stalk you. Chatrooms are dangerous to children and even adults. Chatroom- a branch of a computer network in which participants can engage in real-time discussions with one another. When strangers start asking you questions that you are not comfortable answering (Personal Information).

You are in danger when you are in a chat room because of age. If someone who is older than you are believes that they can take advantage of you, and get money or valuable items out of it, they will harass you. They’ll try to be your best friend, make promises that they won’t live up to, and then try to meet you.

Where? The danger of chat rooms lie on websites. Some sites where chat rooms are located are: AIM MySpace Yahoo Twitter Facebook Say you are in a chat room and a mysterious person starts making conversation. After a good chat he asks about your personal information. This is a common example of the dangers of chat rooms

This usually happens when an older person finds out that an under-aged chatter is talking to them. In this case they believe that they can take advantage of you. Sometimes they can bully or even black mail you.

This can be protected by simply being aware of who is talking to you in the chat room. If you do not know who is trying to make conversation with you or asking you personal questions, then you should log out of the chat and don’t talk to them again.

Resources If you get in trouble on the internet with someone in a chat room, the best thing you can do is inform the nearest parent/ guardian or someone you trust.
