Autobiography What makes you, you.

Non-fiction non·fic·tion- writing based on facts, such as biography or history. Autobiography, or writing by the author, is a form of nonfiction.

Autobiography Auobiography is always written in the first person. They will always use “I” or “me.”

Examples of Autobiographies Diaries Journals Letters memoirs

Biography The story of someone’s life told by another person It is written in 3 rd person (He/she) or (You)

Biography The biographer gets information by conducting interviews and reading letters and diaries. Biographies contain some elements of fiction, such as characters and setting. The sole purpose of a biography is to present an accurate account of the subject’s life.

Essay An essay is a short piece of writing on a single-subject. Essays are often found in newspapers and magazines. The purpose of an essay is to share opinions, try to entertain or persuade, or describe a topic.

Essay continued There are three types of essays: »Expository »Persuasive »Personal Expository writing presents or explains information. Persuasive writing develops an argument. Personal Essays expresses writer’s thoughts and feelings.

Articles Informative articles provides facts about a subject. Some examples are: Newspapers Magazines Articles Textbooks Pamphlets History Books Gardening Books.

A Public Experience Remember, that writing an autobiography is a public experience, not a private one. Choose a topic you are comfortable sharing. Do not write unwanted self-disclosures.

Writers Reveal Remember, each thing you write reveals something else about you—to yourself and to your readers. After writing, always ask yourself: What have I learned about myself in writing this piece and going through this process?

Fashioning Self Writers create ‘self’ with their words. It can be a very powerful experience. Think about how you want to portray yourself.
