Read this paragraph: English is a hard language to learn. That is because so many English words are actually not English. Our language has about one million words. Eighty percent of those words are borrowed from other languages. The effect? Eighty percent of our words don’t follow the rules of the English language. That would make any language hard to learn. Go to next slide 

1. What is the main idea? Write the letter and sentence. a. Borrowed words make English difficult to learn. b. English is the most difficult language in the world. c. No one should be expected to learn English. d. America has many immigrants

 Write a word chain starting with the word “jog.” Change the first or last letter (but NOT the vowel) to form each new word.  For example, your second word could be “jo b ” or “ l og”.  You need at least 10 words in your chain.

Read this paragraph: Is dodgeball fun for everyone? In dodgeball, a player is out of the game if he or she is hit with a ball. Many feel this keeps kids who are not good at sports from getting physical activity. Others feel dodgeball sends the message that it’s OK to use humans as targets. With this in mind, some schools have banned dodgeball. Go to the next slide 

 What is the main idea? Write the letter and sentence. a. Students have to be strong to play dodgeball at school. b. Players who are not good at sports should not play. c. Students need to be tough to play sports at school. d. Dodgeball might not be a good game for all kids to play.
