6. It is important to remember that we write things down so people can read it. That is why we use sentences, detail and good handwriting. Spelling is also important, but we don’t expect every spelling to be correct.

10. Play with your child and their toys, making up stories. Borrow stories from the library and read them, then change them by using your child’s name and their favourite things. Go out so the children can experience different things to write about. Let them do their own homework. Talk about good ideas and presentation but don’t force them. Help with spellings of simple words but let your child ‘have a go’ at longer ones. Show them family members doing writing- letters, birthday cards, lists, stories, e-mails.
