Goals of FBLA: Develop competent, aggressive business leadership Strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work Create more interest in and understanding of American business enterprise Encourage members in the development of individual projects which contribute to the improvement of home, business, and community.

Goals of FBLA continued: Develop character, prepare for useful citizenship, and foster patriotism Encourage scholarship and promote school loyalty Assist students in the establishment of occupational goals Facilitate the transition from school to work

The Historian: Keeps an up-to-date account of the chapter, including the annual report of chapter activities, awards, and publicity (scrapbook).

Parliamentary Procedure: Purpose: To promote efficient meetings so that business can be conducted in an orderly manner.

Parliamentary Procedure Vocabulary Robert’s Rules of Order, New Revised is the guide for parliamentary procedure. Parliamentary Procedure Vocabulary Assembly- the members present at a meeting Chair (chairman)- presiding officer at the meeting Decision-making- the ability to make a final choice Delegating- assigning or allocating responsibilities, time, or authority to others Gavel- used by the president to call a meeting to order

Parliamentary Procedure Vocabulary continued: Incidental motion- a motion that arises out of a pending motion Motion- a formal proposal by a member in a meeting on which the group takes action Second- immediately follows a motion made by another member; indicates endorsement and willingness to discuss the motion

Committees Committees are formed to handle the business of the organization efficiently The president appoints the committee chairperson Committees involved the entire membership in the activities of the organization

Hints for Planning Successful Meetings The executive committee should meet to plan and practice before the meeting. They should prepare an agenda. (Executive committee: officers of the club) The secretary, treasurer, and each committee chairperson should prepare a written report before the meeting.
