GLAST Tracker Design Overview Readout Cable Multi-Chip Electronics Module (MCM) 2 mm gap 19 Carbon-Fiber Tray Panels Titanium Flexure Mounts Carbon- Fiber Sidewalls (Aluminum covered) 16 “tower” modules, each with 37cm  37cm of active cross section 83m 2 of Si in all, like ATLAS SSD, ~ 1M channels 18 x,y planes per tower –19 “tray” structures 12 with 3% W on bottom (“Front”) 4 with 18% W on bottom (“Back”) – 3 with no converter foils –Every other tray is rotated by 90°, so each W foil is followed immediately by an x,y plane of detectors 2mm gap between x and y oriented detectors Trays stack and align at their corners The bottom tray has a flange to mount on the grid. Electronics on sides of trays: –Minimize gap between towers –9 readout modules on each of 4 sides

Tray Panel Fabrication Machining of the Carbon-Carbon closeout material is just starting. Face sheets, cores, inserts, and tungsten are in hand. Bias circuits are out for quote. The next slides show an example of a tray flow-chart report (slides 3-5 )and a draft tower flow-chart (slides 7-8). Sites are marked in red, the sequence follows the actual flow of activities: Plyform, G&A, Centrotecnica, Alenia are external contractors with their own certified quality program; they provide hardware with certificate of compliance and relevant information on the assembly and test activities performed (see slide 6 for an example) INFN has 4 sites involved (Pisa, Perugia, Roma2, Bari), each taking care of specific activities, all four running in parallel the tray thermal-cycle and stacked-tray burn-in and functional test In the live tracking system in use at INFN/Pisa, where all data is stored, more information is available. Activities in each site have: a set of basic info: date, acceptance flag (OK/KO), notes (used for example in case of NCRs or in case of findings from source inspections) for all INFN activities a traveler containing tracking data plus relevant information (e.g. vibrational frequency for ESPI and shake test) for external activities each contractor provides a set of agreed information, with identification of assemblies sub-parts serial numbers, reference to the company internal tracking system for possible consultation on demand, some details on specific activities (see slide 6 for an example) The system is maintained at INFN/Pisa by QA office, with some parts installed in other INFN sites which send data to Pisa. Some information from the system might be available on the web, depending on time and requests. An EIDP will be released with each tower. EIDP will contain trays and tower flow-chart, mate- demate logs, test logs, list of NCRs and RFD/RFW.
